For more than two centuries, vaccines been used to generate protective immunity against diseases. Vaccines generally contain attenuated viruses, inactivated viruses/toxins, or pathogenic subunits. Nucleic acid-based vaccines induce a cell-mediate immune response without the presence of adjuvants, thus providing an advantage over subunit vaccines; they are also incapable of infecting the host, so they are a safer alternative compared to attenuated versions. The Seeker is searching for formulation improvements with a focus on RNA replicon vaccines.
